Kate Daniels – Youth Developer

What’s on My Palette:

A little bit of planning, organizing, reminding, worshipping, counseling, befriending, relating, loving, learning, leading, and following (individually and together as a team with Harry). Still trying to figure out exactly what a youth intern’s specific job related tasks are when her boss is her husband. I know that I like the details and organization of it all. I like planning events with Harry and then playing a part in making them happen. Wednesday nights are the most important night of the week for us; I spend time getting ready for worship if I’m leading or playing, making sure we have adult supervisors , and getting announcements together. I lead a small group for 7th – 12th grade girls once a month, together with Toni. Most importantly is the need to keep letting my life be a finger pointing to Jesus Christ.

My Backdrop:

I was born to Michael and Theresia Thornton on Nov. 28th 1985, Thanksgiving Day (I’m still called the Turkey Baby) and I’ve spent 20 years growing up here in Waterville in one-what seemed to be too small most of the time-house. I have one brother, Michael, who is 2 years younger than me, but who looks two years older than me, and is one of the strongest people I know. I grew up with a circle of friends who accepted me for who I was and encouraged me to follow God by the lives they lived. My family and I started going to a really awesome church when I was around 10 years old and I’m still going to that really awesome church. Joe was my Youth Pastor growing up (he and Karen are still the best) and over the past couple years much has changed because God ordained it. I saw my friend Harry transition into youth leader, my friend Joe transition into lead pastor, and me transition from volunteering my time to help with the youth, because I loved it, into youth intern and now into youth developer; I get to do what I used to do as a volunteer, as a “JOB” now! I’m a piano teacher as well, which started about five years ago when a family friend asked me to teach her daughter what I knew; this has grown into what I do for a lot for kids. I have had many good guy friends and one of them (Harry) ended up being the guy God created me to be with forever. We have been married since September 2006 and are still falling in love and enjoy reveling in the mystery and beauty of God together. We live in a nice little apartment one street over from where I grew up. I am definitely a “homie” but wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

The Colors I Like to Paint With:

Music is definitely a love of mine. Writing music, playing piano, strumming the guitar, and teaching piano or guitar are great JOYs! I’m drawn to the beach , the sky, any sunset that God so artistically designs, and starry nights in Ludington. I like moving to music, some call it dancing (I’m not sure what you’d call my movement though?). Going ball room dancing with Harry , spending time with people , and enjoying food ( I do enjoy it too) are favorites. I like “Finding Nemo” and any other animated movies that make me laugh and have good quotes. Oh and I can’t forget ice-cream.

My Favorite Paintings so far:

Days spent on the boat with my dad. Unconditional love from my mom. Memorable trips to Florida. Receiving my first guitar. My Best Friends. Nights at the pool house with everyone there. Hearing a song written for me, sung to me (by the sweetest voice ever!). Conversations with Joe. Karen’s exited “SHOUT”. Worshiping with 20,000 people. Girl’s Dances here at church (the luau was my favorite I think). Rock’n concerts. Tears shed for Jesus. Toni’s honesty. Kissing, on my wedding day, for the first time EVER and everyday since. Being a Daniels now.

Paintings I Hope to See:

Africa, to see more of God’s beautiful face. Holding my children. Seeing all Creation bow down and worship our King!
